Monica Carey, PhD is the Pennsylvania Program Director at Solar United Neighbors, a national nonprofit that puts rooftop solar at the cornerstone. Monica works to represent Pennsylvania’s solar owners and supporters by advocating for equitable solar policies and running solar co-ops all across the Commonwealth. As a scientist and community organizer, Monica is dedicated to making solar energy accessible to everyone. She grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and then went on to earn a PhD in chemistry from Michigan State University. Her research involved low-cost, earth-abundant solar materials. At SUN, Monica is able to put her passion to work by improving equity and inclusivity using policy and advocacy. In her downtime, Monica enjoys reading, gardening, and singing.
